If you’ve been to any of my meetings, you know that I’m a strong advocate of the development of people’s prayer lives; especially in the area of praying in tongues. I emphasize tongues and strong prayer during my messages often because I know how beneficial these things are to a Christian’s life. Here are just a few of the benefits of praying in tongues.
Tongues is a Sign
Roberts Liardon tells us that the first benefit of speaking in tongues is that it gives you the assurance that you’ve been baptized in the Holy Spirit. In my meetings, I often urge those in the congregation to ask the folks next to them if they are saved and filled with the Spirit. Sometimes I will even tell them to ask the person beside them to pray in tongues out loud. If that person is filled with the Holy Spirit, tongues will flow right out of them. If they’re not filled with the Spirit, I will call them forward to receive the baptism. I call that going fishing!
